Reading Companion

Exact text of all 49 cards, with learning and lookup aids. The same v6 card wording as the aligned First Edition book and handbook. No account or email is required.

A prompt, not a verdict.

  1. Name one situation. Choose one system and one time window.
  2. Observe, then draw or choose. Describe what is becoming what. Draw to invite a question, or choose a pattern to test.
  3. Read the card. Read Origin to Destination, meaning and question. Compare Light and all three Shadows.
  4. Test the fit. Name evidence, a close alternative and an observable sign of change. A card may not fit.
  5. Close and review. Choose one observation, small experiment or reason to wait. Decide when to reconsider.

A pause is not automatically Arrest; a transition is not required merely because a card names it.

Keep cards upright. Consent, practical judgment and real constraints come first. This is a reflective language, not prediction or a validated diagnostic instrument.

The seven Primes

Activities, not kinds of people or ranks of superiority. Read A:B as Origin → Destination.

What is ending and becoming new?

The cycle 1 → 2 → 3 → 4 → 5 → 6 → 7 → 1′ organizes the vocabulary; it is not a required sequence. The changed center carries Trace. All 49 combinations remain available.

Distinguish, then test

Formation / maintenance

Incarnation (1:4) gives coherent potential form. Commitment (5:4) gives one of several possibilities durable form. Foundation (4:4) reinforces an existing structure. Ask whether the form is being established or kept reliable.

Emergence / Transcendence

Emergence (6:5) makes new possibilities or capacities available through integration. Transcendence (6:7) transforms the integrated whole's organizing identity or rules. New capacity alone does not establish a new order.

Creation / reinforcement of interdependence

Ecology (5:6) brings diversity into interdependence. Web (6:6) sustains and reinforces an already integrated system. Ask whether coordination is first forming or being maintained.

Light and Shadows

Light
Constructive expression in this situation.
Arrest
The movement does not become established or sustained.
Excess
The Destination becomes disproportionate and harms the whole or its parts.
Prematurity
The Origin cannot yet support the movement.

Mirror, Complement and self-references

Mirror reverses A:B to B:A. Complement pairs 1 with 5, 2 with 6, 3 with 7, and 4 with 4; substitute both positions without reversing. Neither is automatically a remedy or next step. Self-references and matching targets are intentional.

The diamond is a transition cue, not evidence of a real Threshold crossing. The τ mark means Trace: what a change carries forward, rather than an exact reset. A transition can occur and still be excessive or premature.

Same Destination, different routes

Filter by Destination to compare the seven Origins that lead toward the same activity. For Form, compare Boundary (2:4), Covenant (3:4), Commitment (5:4) and Institution (6:4). Their Origins differ; none is a mandatory route. A desired endpoint is not evidence that a transition occurred.
